I will demonstrate realistic watercolor (WC) painting. It would be best to draw out your reference before the class. I will provide a color and a black & white reference image to all students.

I recommend using image size 8-1/2” x 11” on your WC paper. (Download from the Materials (Paint-In Folder) on the MSW Website.) The size of WC paper is your preference, however please use a good grade of WC paper because we will be working the surface of the paper with washes and lifting.

Here are a few things I will go over in the class:

*How to Reserve whites / Masking out whites.

*How to paint creases in fabrics.

*How to paint folded fabrics.

*How to lift designs in fabrics.

*How to have water control.

*How to paint smooth lines and hard lines.

SUPPLIES:

  1. Draw image prior to Paint-In.
  2. Watercolor paints / palette
  3. Watercolor brushes
  4. Watercolor pigments (the colors won’t matter so much because I want you to paint using your favorite colors).
  5. Watercolor paper (always use Arches 300 lb, but you are welcome to use 140 lb and any brand as long as it is 100% Cotton)
  6. Masking fluid (I will have some on hand for you to use)
  7. Paper Towels
  8. Water containers (please bring two)
  9. Spray bottle
  10. Pencil #2 lead
  11. Eraser
  12. Apron or wear old shirt
  13. Masking tape (I’ll have some to share)

We need your help to make our Paint-Ins run smoothly.
