About this event

This class will clarify things rarely explicitly taught about watercolor materials which will improve your watercolor paintings.  Topics covered—wet into wet, pigments vs. paints, Magic mixes, granulation and painting water, trees and rocks.

Sherry will be sharing lots of good information
She knows this is also a LOT of supplies and she does not expect anyone to break their budget trying to get it all.

Supplies

Listed in DESCENDING ORDER of importance.

  • Bring a pen and paper to take notes.

  • Plexiglass, sponge, and towel

    • A piece or two of Plexiglass at least 1” larger on each side than your paper.  Plexiglass makes the best support for wet into wet painting. Either clear or white plastic is fine.  This is a good choice.  https://a.co/d/3mJj8T4

    • A clean sponge

    • A terry cloth hand towel laundered WITHOUT fabric softener or essential oils. We want nothing to contaminate the watercolor paper.

  • Paper goods mentioned

    • Paper towels  A roll of very cheap single-ply toilet tissue and a rubber band.  A box of very cheap facial tissue—so it has no oils or lotions.

    • Watercolor Paper: Please bring 3-4 sheets of your Cold Press favorite paper of at least 140 lb weight.  You may use a hair dryer or heat gun, but, it’s optimal to let things dry naturally so you might work on two or more paintings at once.

  • Spray Bottles

    • You will need a variety of spray bottles for this process.

    • Bring a fine small mister such as a cosmetics spray bottle from the travel-size containers at a drug or grocery store.

    • You will also need a larger spray bottle to spray larger quantities of water at a time.

    • These spray bottles that hair stylists use are great for this purpose.

  • Brushes

    • Large flat brush (1.5” to 2”)

      • Flat brushes ¼ or 3/8, 1/2”, 1”, 2”, or larger or whatever you have.  I have a 3/8” flat brush that is very useful for tree trunks.

    • Reservoir Rigger

    • Dagger Brush

      • Dagger or script liner brushes—bring what you have.  A recommendation for a good one is Cheap Joe’s Scroggy's Loose Goose Dagger Striper any size.

    • Hake Brushes

    • Palette Knives

      • Or, an OLD Credit Card

    • (Medium or large round brushes if you have them.)

  • Paint

    • Bring what you have. Please bring any granulating colors you have. For the paints listed, the brand is mentioned where it makes a difference or when it is unique to the manufacturer.

    • Granulating paints Glacier Blue/Brown/Turquoise

    • Bleedproof White
