John Keeling will share his process for creating watercolor pet portraits, including the initial sketch, first washes, development of features, and final details. You will explore both textured and non-textured surfaces and learn the advantages of each. Bring a photo of your favorite pet so that you can create a portrait that will become a keepsake.

Watercolor pigments

• Lemon Yellow

• 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper or Block (8x10, 9x12 or 11x14)       
• Strathmore Multimedia Board-500 Series (8x10 or 11x14)

Brushes

• “Round” watercolor brush, size 7 or 8, that comes to a nice point
• 1” Mop or larger Round (size 10 or 12) for laying in washes
• Rigger (or small round for fine details)

Pens

• Brown Sakura Pigma Micron (01, 05 sizes)

Pencils

• Standard 2B pencils are fine.
• Also get softer leads  (4B, 6B or 8B)
