January 2024 Letter from the President

Lindsay Ainsworth | Published on 1/15/2024

We all have to manage life and our time. It often feels like progress is slow to come and hard to earn. If I maintain a small persistent effort, then after a while and often taking me by surprise, I can suddenly do things that eluded me before and I feel energized! I’ve found I get better results when I work this way regularly, rather than trying to cram all my efforts into a big push. In my experience, a small consistent effort pays larger dividends more often than the many times I’ve pulled an actual, or a metaphorical, all-nighter. It also doesn’t hurt to know that Vincent Van Gogh agreed, “Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” Good luck with all your efforts and let me know what works for you.

Your MSW board members are busy preparing for a great 2024, In addition to our New Members’ Showcase and Dinner this January 22nd (If you haven’t already registered do it now! ALL MEMBERS, their significant others, and friends are welcome. Hurry and sign up soon! There is an 80 person limit due to size of the venue!)

We are working on a lot of different projects and member benefits. Here is an exclusive peak at upcoming events and endeavors:

  • We are preparing for the 54th Annual Juried Exhibition

  • Booking our upcoming Paint-ins,

  • Researching possible online workshop opportunities,

  • Recruiting new artists for the Working Artist Initiative

  • Continuing Zoom access for selected Paint-Ins,

  • Organizing a significant public relations push to raise awareness of MSW,

  • Entering booths at upcoming art fairs and festivals,

  • Establishing educational and community outreach via volunteer-run demos,

  • Increasing our fundraising efforts,

  • Holding social media campaigns like our upcoming “Valentines for Seniors,”

  • Increasing member benefits across the board.

We need your help to make all this happen. Please consider using your time and energy to be of service to MSW and the art community as a whole. I often hear that those who volunteer with us are most impacted by the people they meet and get to know! Go to our website and click on the “Volunteer” tab.

Thank you, and come be a part of MSW!

Keep Painting!

Warmly,

Stephen Lanford
President MSW

P.S.

I found these pointers by Georgia O’Keef and Paul Klee to be illuminating. Please share your thoughts or other painters you find inspiring.
